Happy new year! I hope 2012 is off to a great start for you. We wrapped
up 2011 nicely with a visit to Minocqua, Wisconsin and some time with
family. This year, we got to hang out with Mom, Randy, DeAnna, Andy,
MaKayla, and Noah. We did all sorts of stuff, but a lot of the fun
simply came from hanging around the house playing with the kids and
reading a lot of Curious George books (one of Julia's Christmas gifts).
It was a nice trip!

While we were gone, we did lots of wintery activities - which were clearly out of the question in Wheaton, where it was almost 50 degrees while we were gone. Weird! On our first full day, we all went sledding. The kids really had fun, and I think the adults did, too! The following day, Joe, Julia and I went ice skating. To grasp the importance of our ice skating trip, you need to understand that Jules has been obsessed with Charlie Brown Christmas for the past month. She pretends to skate in our foyer and will let you know about ten times when Snoopy starts skating in the movie. Let it suffice to say that she may someday be a professional ice skater/ hockey player! For most of our time on the ice, she hummed the song that plays on the movie when the Peanuts gang is skating. It was really cute to see somebody so little on skates... even if the parents were doing most of the actual work. At one point, after taking a rest, she even told Joe that she needed to get back out there and practice ;)

To wrap up our trip, on new year's eve, we all went on a horse drawn sleigh ride at a ranch in Eagle River, WI. It was so cool! We were with a few other families and rode for about 30 minutes before stopping for hot chocolate - spiked with schnapps for the adults :) - and a bonfire. The kids found a fun little hill to slide down while we were warming up by the fire and petting the horses. We saw deer bedding in the woods during our ride and it even snowed while we were out. What a cool adventure!
Overall, it was a fun trip and a nice way to end the year. Now we're ready to start 2012... I hope it will be a great one for the WT family!
