In early March, my work took me to the California Bay area. Having never been to California before, I was excited to explore a bit and San Francisco was a great place to do it!
On Wednesday morning, I flew out for a few days of work meetings and learning. It was a great trip, filled with visiting friends, like my former Elmhurst College student, Ally Vertigan, and former Maryland co-worker, Jennifer Pigza. I learned about best practices in community-engaged learning and was really moved by my experience in this diverse and sometimes deeply challenged city - especially in terms of people who are homeless.
Saturday, Joe flew out so we could enjoy some fun time in the city together, despite the rain. It was great! We rented bikes and rode across the Golden Gate Bridge. We explored Chinatown, Fort Mason, Japantown, the Haight, Golden Gate Park, the Wharf, Lombard Street, and much more.

When looking back at our photos, I realized that we took SO MANY pictures of delicious food. Trying food was an activity in and of itself during our trip... and I highly recommend it. Here's some of the awesomeness we devoured.

We had such a great adventure together. Since we never really went on a honeymoon, we joked that it was the honeymoon we never took! It definitely gave us both the travel bug and we're already starting to think about where we should go next. With our 10th wedding anniversary coming in June 2017, it seems like time to plan that big trip we never did before the kids! And... more photos from San Francisco :)
